THE Federal Government has ordered an inquiry into
the home loans market with a view to increasing
competition between banks and non-bank
lenders.
The House of Representatives Economics Committee is embarking on an examination of competition in the banking and non-banking sectors with a particular focus on home mortgage products.
"We need to open up competition in the retail banking and non-banking sectors, demystify the number of home mortgage products available and offer a wider choice to the consumer," committee chair Craig Thomson said.
"The committee's inquiry will focus on developments on home mortgage products, their providers and the current state of the industry."
